Bought The Long Emergency from the Sally Army for 40p. One thing that strikes me is that new technology in terms of electric/hybrid cars has come on pretty strongly over the past 6 years since the book was written but no real sign of shortage on the other hand. A real debt crisis is likely to cut demand deeply from now and we'll see much less traffic on the roads. Yes I know it's not just about road transport.

Now time for me to creep under bed.

Started reading that now. Had to wait until I had finished my other book but I'm not commuting in by bus as much as I used to. When I read the Long Emergency I'm always thinking that Steve Cook is too optimistic and he could do with getting his own copy Smiley

This is not a credit crisis. This is not even an economic crisis, primarily. Both of the above are symptoms of what is, fundamentally, a resource crisis.

The majority of humanity is going to get a lot poorer. Live with it and begin preparing.
